A portait of Larry Mooney

I have been a musician since the age of 6, when I started playing the trumpet. I later switched to trombone, and played that professionally for about 20 years. I played in numerous big bands and combos in Southern California; worked in Las Vegas; played in the First Division Band in the US Army; and toured the midwest and parts of Europe. I have a Bachelor's of Music degree from CSU Sacramento in California, where I studied theory and arranging with Herb Harrison. Guitar came along as a hobby in my teens, and matured into my principle instrument. I studied classical guitar with Frederick Noad and Leon Atkinson, and for the past 30 years have developed a solo act, singing and accompanying myself on guitar. In recent years, I have been applying my knowledge of jazz to the instrument. I am perpetually energized by how much there is to learn.

I currently live and teach in North Idaho. My studio is in Sandpoint, Idaho.
